Betrayal

Just writing the title of this entry stirs me.  I would imagine you feel the same if you’ve ever experienced a betrayal.  I’m not going to labor on about the hurt and pain that comes with it.  But it definitely can leave you feeling numb.  The best approach for all of us is to look at how understanding can rise from the ashes of betrayal.

C.S. Lewis once said that God whispers to us in our pleasures, but screams to us in our pain.  How true!  The opportunity is in the listening.  Maybe you were supposed to be more careful in who you trusted.  Maybe you needed to be humbled in order to see that no one is immune.

The following might help as you recover from betrayal:

  1. Evaluate who you trust and why you trust them.
  2. Avoid bitterness like the plague.
  3. Take some time to reflect.
  4. Take the acid test of responsibility…did you contribute to the betrayal.
  5. Don’t think you’re the only one whose ever been betrayed.
